The American Matchcover Archive

A digital repository dedicated to the conservation and celebration of the American matchbook cover — a pocket-sized canvas that once served as the primary advertising medium for 20th century commerce.

We hope to honor this everyday, utilitarian item not merely as ephemera, but as a significant artifact of graphic design history.

About

Thank you for visiting and supporting
The American Matchcover Archive

The archive is an independently-run digital repository by designer & collector Natalia Dymora.

Our mission is to recognize the matchbook as an integral piece of American art & design history, highlight the historic evolution of advertising, honor current & past establishments, but mostly importantly showcase the country’s diverse cultural presence & its distinct visual language(s).

Every matchbook cover in this archive is scanned, sorted and stored by hand, with love. We currently house 252 covers within 28 unique collections & are growing everyday
